Our client, a Berlin-based AI SaaS company, is transforming B2B wholesale by enabling teams to query, search, and extract insights from complex enterprise data. They are hiring a Senior AI Engineer to own their language AI stack, powering search, text-to-SQL, and document understanding systems that directly impact customer workflows.

The role:

You will design, build, and operate NLP and retrieval systems that turn unstructured and structured data into actionable insights. This is a hands-on role with full ownership over architecture, model pipelines, and production deployment.

What you’ll do:

• Build text-to-SQL systems allowing users to query business data in natural language

• Develop semantic search infrastructure for UI and AI-driven features

• Create information extraction pipelines for PDFs, emails, and quote requests

• Build AI chat interfaces combining retrieval and structured queries

• Own retrieval and embedding pipelines, hybrid search, and reranking systems

• Fine-tune models on domain-specific data and maintain evaluation/feedback loops

• Ship quickly, iterate, and continuously improve based on real usage and business impact

What you bring:

• Strong NLP fundamentals: transformers, embeddings, attention mechanisms

• Experience building production NLP/ML systems (text-to-SQL, search, extraction, or conversational AI)

• Familiarity with LLMs beyond basic prompting (RAG, context management, grounding)

• Solid software engineering practices: tested, documented, maintainable code

• Pragmatic problem solver, comfortable with ambiguity and fast decision-making

• Experience translating business problems into NLP solutions

• Fluent English; German skills a plus

Tech stack (preferred):

• Data & ML: PySpark, Python, SQL, Databricks (Unity Catalog, Workflows, Model Serving)

• Infrastructure & orchestration: AWS, Terraform, GitHub Actions

• NLP/retrieval systems: OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, vector databases, embedding pipelines, text-to-SQL approaches, document pipelines
