"Lead the Platform Behind Data at Scale"

We're partnering with an established global technology business that has built one of the world's largest data platforms, trusted by organisations across multiple industries to make informed, data-driven decisions. This role is based from either their Berlin or Hamburg office on a hybrid basis. 

As the business continues to invest heavily in its engineering function, they're looking for an experienced Data Engineering Manager to lead a cross-functional team responsible for the core data delivery platform. This is a leadership position where you'll influence technical direction, shape engineering culture and help build the infrastructure that powers products used by millions of people worldwide.

The Role 

You'll lead a team of experienced data, backend and infrastructure engineers, working alongside Product to define the technical roadmap for a business-critical data platform.

The focus is on creating scalable, reliable and governed data services that improve how data is distributed, discovered and consumed across the organisation. You'll help modernise legacy data pipelines, improve platform reliability and enable engineering teams to build against trusted, well-governed data products.

This role suits someone who enjoys coaching engineers, influencing architectural decisions and working across multiple stakeholders to deliver long-term platform improvements.

Key Responsabilities

• Lead and mentor a cross-functional team of Data, Backend and Infrastructure Engineers.

• Foster a collaborative engineering culture focused on continuous improvement and technical excellence.

• Partner with Product Managers and senior stakeholders to define and deliver the product roadmap.

• Guide architectural decisions around scalable data distribution platforms and modern data infrastructure.

• Drive improvements to data governance, quality, discoverability and platform reliability.

• Support the evolution away from legacy data pipelines towards modern, self-service data platforms.

• Collaborate with engineering teams to develop scalable internal APIs and data interfaces.

• Work closely with architects and technical leaders to ensure solutions are secure, scalable and cost effective.

What we're looking for:

• Experience leading cross-functional engineering teams within a modern product environment.

• Strong technical background in backend engineering, ideally with Java or Python.

• Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases.

• Good understanding of data warehousing, ETL pipelines and modern data platform architecture.

• Experience designing distributed systems, event-driven architectures and microservices.

• Knowledge of technologies such as Kafka, Redpanda or Confluent is highly desirable.

• Experience implementing data governance practices including data catalogues, schema versioning and data contracts.

• Familiarity with AWS cloud infrastructure.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
