"Build Synthetic Worlds. Influence Real Decisions"
We're working with an ambitious technology business developing a next-generation Population Simulation Engine designed to help organisations test strategic decisions before they impact the real world.
Rather than relying on assumptions, historical reporting, or static analytics, the platform simulates millions of realistic individuals, modelling demographics, behaviours, preferences, and purchasing decisions to predict how populations may respond to different scenarios.
This is an opportunity to join at a pivotal stage and help shape a product that sits at the intersection of advanced machine learning, behavioural science, causal inference, and simulation modelling.
The Opportunity
As a Senior Data Scientist, you'll play a central role in expanding the company's modelling capabilities and helping define the future of the platform.
Working closely with an experienced Data Scientist with expertise spanning psychometrics, survey methodology, causal inference, and applied machine learning, you'll collaborate on challenging modelling problems, debate methodologies, and translate research into production-ready solutions.
This is a highly autonomous role where your work will directly influence product direction, modelling strategy, and business outcomes.
What You'll Be Doing
Design, develop, validate, and deploy machine learning models that power large-scale synthetic population simulations.
Build demographic and behavioural prediction models capable of generating realistic population-level insights.
Apply modern machine learning techniques where appropriate, including deep learning for structured data, latent variable models, transformers, foundation models, and attention-based architectures.
Evaluate when simpler or more traditional statistical approaches provide the strongest solution.
Take ownership of a specific modelling domain, such as consumer behaviour, brand affinity, retail decision-making, or international market expansion.
Contribute to the development of agentic AI workflows, including prompting strategies, validation processes, and iterative model development practices.
Work closely with product and leadership teams to ensure modelling decisions create measurable business impact.
What We're Looking For
5+ years of experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, or Applied Research roles.
A proven track record of taking complex, ambiguous problems from concept through to production deployment.
Strong experience across multiple modelling approaches, including gradient boosting, probabilistic methods, latent variable models, and modern deep learning techniques.
Excellent understanding of model evaluation, validation, experimentation, and scientific rigour.
Strong commercial judgement and the ability to select the right methodology for the problem rather than defaulting to a preferred approach.
Experience building and deploying production-grade machine learning solutions.
Comfortable working in fast-moving environments with high levels of ownership and autonomy.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
Modern AI Development Experience
The team embraces AI-assisted development as a core part of the engineering and research workflow.
You'll ideally have hands-on experience using modern AI development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or similar platforms to accelerate delivery while maintaining rigorous validation standards and quality control.
Nice to Have
Experience with choice modelling techniques, including conjoint analysis, multinomial logit, conditional logit, or latent class models.
Strong knowledge of causal inference methodologies, including Difference-in-Differences, Instrumental Variables, Synthetic Control, or DAG-based approaches.
Experience conducting international or cross-market behavioural research.
Contributions to open-source projects, published research, technical writing, conference talks, or methodology development.
Why Join?
Work on a genuinely novel product solving complex real-world decision-making challenges.
Direct influence over modelling strategy, product development, and business outcomes.
High levels of autonomy and ownership.
Collaborate with highly capable researchers, data scientists, and product leaders.
Modern AI-first development environment.
Fast-moving, intellectually curious, and highly collaborative culture.
Opportunity to shape how organisations make decisions using simulation, behavioural modelling, and machine learning.
